Course Overview
On this Byzantine ring course you will learn how to design and make a Byzantine style ring with stone settings and elements of granulation and decorative wire work. The project will guide you through the whole process from design through to fabrication.
With direction from the project brief you will start by drawing out your design, from there you will source your materials to suit your taste, design and budget.
Next we will take your designs into the workshop and break them down into their individual components to begin the step by step process of fabrication with full direction from the tutor.
It is a great opportunity for shared learning as all students are working on the same project. On completion students will have strengthened confidence in their ability to design, work to a budget, solder and set stones with a higher proficiency in their technical ability.
The Byzantine style ring is extremely popular in contemporary jewellery design with elements often borrowed from and modernised. It’s called a Byzantine style ring. However, it has more in common with traditional Etruscan wedding rings.
This Improver course develops your silver jewellery making skills further after completing one of our beginner terms. This course is also a good option if you have attended courses elsewhere and have a good foundation in silver jewellery making. You will need to know how to saw, anneal and solder confidently.
