Course Overview

Silver Jewellery Afternoon Class

Work on your own silver jewellery projects with access to a fully equipped jewellery workshop and expert tutor support.

What is the Silver Jewellery Afternoon Class?

Our Silver Jewellery Afternoon Class is for competent jewellers with solid workshop experience who want dedicated time and space to develop their own work. Rather than following a set project, you’ll bring your own jewellery ideas and work independently – with Nerissa on hand throughout the session to offer guidance on design and construction challenges as they arise.

This class is ideal if you’re looking for regular access to a well-equipped workshop to progress your personal jewellery projects. It’s worth arriving with a project or idea in mind to make the most of your time at the bench.

The workshop is fully equipped with a rolling mill, draw plates, a range of mandrills and stakes, and individual toolboxes at every workstation.

Please note: this is not a taught class. If you’d like to learn new jewellery techniques, please browse our course list – we have courses to suit all levels from beginner through to advanced.

What will I work on?

As this is an open workshop session, the work you produce is entirely your own. You set your agenda – whether that’s progressing an ongoing project, experimenting with a new design or refining your finishing skills. Nerissa is available to advise and troubleshoot but the direction is yours.

Course FAQs

No, you don’t need to bring your own tools. Every jewellery bench has its own toolbox with everything you need for a typical silversmithing session.

Yes, provided you have a solid foundation in silversmithing from training elsewhere. Students should be confident soldering, annealing and forming metal and comfortable working independently on their own projects. If you’re unsure whether your experience level is a good fit please get in touch before booking and we’ll be happy to advise.

Keeping Safe in the Workshop

As a student you are responsible for your own safety in the workshop. The most important things to remember are;

  • Please listen to directions from your tutor to ensure you know how to use all the equipment safely and correctly.
  • Do not operate equipment you do not know how to use.
  • Covered footwear is required and absolutely no high heels.
  • Tie back long hair when using motorised equipment.
  • Please respect others and don’t interrupt students who are soldering, using the drill or any other equipment that could create a safety concern if the operator is distracted.
  • Remember to take all your belongings with you when you leave.
  • Please leave all unnecessary personal items at home.

You will need to bring

  • Your own apron, to protect your clothes.
  • Packed lunches are recommended if your class runs for a full day.

Please do not attend the workshop if

  • You feel unwell.

A more comprehensive guide to workshop safety can be found in our Workshop Guidelines pdf.
